Golden Hour Engagement Session at Wedge Pond, Kananaskis
Photographing an Engagement Session at Wedge Pond and Barrier Lake at Sunset
Kristie and Riley booked their engagement session nearly a year and a half before their wedding, choosing the breathtaking Canadian Rockies in September as the perfect backdrop. Meeting for the first time during the shoot, it was clear from the start that our personalities clicked effortlessly, making the session comfortable and fun.
One of the highlights of the day was definitely having their dog join the shoot. If you know me, you know I absolutely adore animals! Their furry friend added an extra layer of warmth and authenticity to the photos truly some of the cutest images ever captured. If you’re wondering whether to bring your pet to your session, my advice is a definite yes! Pets bring joy, spontaneity, and genuine moments that you just can’t stage.
We chose to shoot during sunset to capture that beautiful golden hour glow, and this session did not disappoint. This year, the mountains had quite a bit of smoke, which combined with the golden sun and the iconic blue mountains created an ethereal, almost painterly effect in the photographs. The interplay between soft, warm light and moody mountain silhouettes made for an incredible atmosphere.
Wedge Pond and Barrier Lake offered diverse scenery from calm waters reflecting stunning mountain vistas to lush forests perfect for capturing a variety of romantic and intimate moments. Krisite and Riley’s relaxed energy combined with the stunning natural light made for magical images that will be cherished forever.
Engagement sessions like this remind me why I love photographing couples in the Rockies. The landscape sets a timeless scene that complements the authentic connection between two people. Kristie, Riley, and their pup created memories and images full of warmth and love, wrapped in the unparalleled beauty of Alberta’s wilderness at sunset.
If you’re considering an engagement session, especially here in the Canadian Rockies, I highly recommend sunset and definitely bringing your furry friends along. The light, the setting, and the company combine to create something truly special.
Kristie and Riley’s big day will be posted shortly but for now, these engagement photos truly capture the beginning of their journey together.
